If you guys don't realize how much Fortnite hurt entertainment companies, NETFLIX said that they "compete with and lose to Fortnite more than HBO" in their recent profit report.
level 2
Which makes perfect sense, Netflix is competing with Fortnite for users time. HBO has spikes in popularity, it has hit large budget well directed/written shows, but nothing steady like Netflix. So it isn't really a direct competitor, not like Fortnite which is always directly competing for user's time.

This is common sense, though, no?
All of these platforms (netflix, video games, books, etc.) are fighting for your "fun time".

If $700 million in revenue loss doesn't convince Riot to start releasing merch like a real gaming company, then idk what will.
level 2
For being one of the biggest gaming franchises in the world, League's absolute non-existance of official merch is borderline criminal.

yeah I am tilted af that there are these cool LEC shirts you see on every caster instagram post, but not in the fking merch shop. Just allow me to give you money that isnt cringy Star guardian Jinx sexy full image shirt, like who the fuck can go anywhere with merch like that.

I just don't know how hard it is to print some goddamn posters with Champion splash arts on them. They can make excuses all they want, but come the fuck on.

Pretty sure Fortnite had A LOT to do with LoL making $700 million less.

Nah man, clearly 150bucks for chromas is a better way to monetize the game

Seems like this comment from five years ago was on point, lol.

What happened to League merchandise? I could have sworn they said they were expanding their merchandise stores to be far more expansive and they literally didn't do shit with it. I think they just expected people to buy what was currently available online and then got bored with it. Riot could have franchised the shit out of their lore and created some stores in key places with strong League playing activity. Could potentially have been the next Pokemon Center of the western world.

While this is a bigger problem than releasing merch. Selling merch isnt gonna make up for a 700 million deficit I'm sorry to say. I'm sure riot would rather invest in another department.
